Never watched Dune. Read most of the books, though, along with a lot of Frank Herbert’s other writing. The Destination: Void books were particularly interesting
Don’t listen to him. Dune is my favorite book of all time. The movie had its moments, but the source material just doesn’t translate well to a screen play.
Dune is a great book, as is Dune Messiah. The rest went progressively downhill. The movie was a trainwreck, but the SciFy miniseries was pretty good and stayed mostly true to the source material.
Dune was unforgetable from the first moment when a character in early adulthood who is supposed to be heir to an empire has to be lectured on the planets in that system, and it appears he’s somehow never heard any of this before. I began to suspect the whole thing was really a plot to feed that dolt to a sandworm before he had to actually rule. Consistent with the apparent competence in those parts, the plot failed.
The problem with trying to make a Movie out of Dune is that 90% of the book takes place Inside the Charaters’ Heads. And it’s really Difficult to shove a Camera in there..The Next Time some movie Succeeds in doing that with will be the First Time..The Real Problem is that the people who make those decisions in Hollywierd never actually READ the Book. They just decide that, if it’s on the Best Seller list, they can make a profit sticking the title on a Movie..

Dune was an immense train wreck but it’s by David Lynch. Even his bad movies are way better than almost everything else out there.

I agree, Dune is a great book, and the rest of the series isn’t bad either, not quite as good, but still good reads.

I saw the movie and then read the book. Somehow the book felt a lot more intelligent.
