If it isn’t salty and fatty, it isn’t a potato chip.

a “healthy potato chip” seems to be an oxymoron to me. If you want to eat healthily, why not eat lettuce? ;-D

“Lite” usually means “20% more expensive.” All that gets lighter is your wallet.

I’m wondering how many Calvin and Hobbes strips didn’t feature Calvin or Hobbes? I bet this is rare.

Myself, I’m a fan of the lightly salted pringles. Nearly as low in calories as the low-fat version! :)

I’ve come to the conclusion that we live in a very confusing, complicated world, and at the end of the day trying to sort it all into neat little boxes is impractical at best. So, to Calvin’s dad, I say, “Buy the one you think tastes the best.”

You aren’t supposed to complain about these kinds of things for at least a few more decades, Dad.

@pacopuddy@dunestriderand othersAs a heart patient in a family that tends to die from heart disease, I was obliged to completely re-make my diet. One of the things I gave up was real bacon, and I do miss it. I have tried ALL the bacon substitutes, and I can tell you that the Morningstar Farms “facon” (fake bacon) is the best of the lot. They’ve got the look and the smell right. That said, nothing tastes like bacon except bacon. The facon works as a sub for plain bacon, but doesn’t really hold up in recipes. For instance, I make my own baked beans from time to time in winter, using dried beans rather than canned. For that I have had to go either strict veggie, or I use turkey bacon for at least an approximation of the taste and texture.@paul or “space”Of course you’re right, but the key is to not just eat healthy as a form of penance. You have to experiment, like you did as a kid, to find things you enjoy eating that are also healthier for you than what you ate previously. Eating is one of life’s two great joys. If you don’t settle on a diet you like, you will not stick to it. Through trial and error, I have found alternatives to my old, fat-and-sugar-filled habits that works well and that I truly enjoy eating. So I’m still here, annoying people on GoComics, instead of pushing up daisies.

I don’t eat potato chips, they are too salty AND too fat! But it is right, shopping for meals becomes always more difficult, you nearly need studies for it! When I think, my parents were poor people, we were glad, when we had enough to eat and hadn’t to starve! My mother bought, what she could find and was not too expensive, we were thankful, when we had something on our plates and didn’t ask very much about it!

They’re delicious so who cares what you call them!

I’ve been on a super low carb, high fat and protein diet for over a year now and I just keep getting skinnier and skinnier. I love this diet. I can eat bacon and eggs and cheese, stuff I thought I couldn’t eat for so many years. Once a week I get to eat pretty much as many carbs as I want. It’s very satisfying.

Food cannot be “healthy”, it’s dead. Food is sometimes healthful. Want to be healthy? Eat healthful foods.

This is why I’l like to go back and live in the 50s or 60s! Life was so much simpler then! Perry Mason and Leave It To Beaver was on TV and the comics were still in the daily papers.

Oh how I miss that black ink stain on my fingers…

Many of you didn’t have a retail business Like I did! Keeping up with all the “changes” was truly a PITA! In addition to hardware and power equipment, I was also into sporting goods. How’d you like to be stuck with expensive autographed skates after last year’s favorite player was barely an item this year?

You think adults are fussy, try to sell Bauer or CCM hockey skates to a high school student when you don’t have skates autographed by his favorite goalie…

I have gone into a store and demanded “the pickles with ALL the salt” at Christmastime when I was making potato salad and wanted it to taste right for my family. They had to go “check in the back” to find them. Some of us don’t need all the alterations to our food, and some of us can make the necessary alterations ourselves without the manufacturers doing it for us.
