. The original lyric, recorded in January 1938, was “flat foot floozie with a floy floy”; however, Vocalion, objected to the word “floozie”,3 meaning a sexually promiscuous woman, or a prostitute.

Yes GEE1A, and the ‘floy floy’ was a most contagious, shall we say, health problem. The words are actually ‘…with the floy floy’. The song eventually went public by changing ‘floozie’ to ‘floogie’ with the ‘floy floy’ considered an all but forgotten slang word.

Vocalion was a record company that did the song after decca turned it down as too vulgar. “Floozie” had to be downgraded to Floogie and “Floy Floy” was a euphemism for VD.

I was just trying to differentiate between a child whose bioligical parents have died, and one whose parents have terminated parental rights. My wife is a social worker. Used to work in a facility which 150 years ago was founded when influenza and other epidemics would leave large numbers of children orphaned. Today, the facility is still full of orphans, and they are are available for adoption, but their biological parents are still alive, they are incapable of caring for their children.

That’s a legal but not literal orphan, surely?

(But yes, I’m pretty sure she was originally lying.)
