Bushmiller’s backgrounds were always stylized just enough. I used to try to imitate them. They’re harder to do than you think; they should avoid distraction from the main characters in the cartoon. George Herriman’s were the strangest, sometimes just cursory scribbles, sometimes art in themselves.
Boy, oh boy…ANOTHER kid with it’s head down, looking at something, not paying attention to what’s going on around them. Ah, to go back to such simpler times!!!
