It’s not always smart to insult someone when you’re in a vulnerable position, there, Mr. Patient. Of course, in this case, you’re ok, because the dentist will probably agree with you…
Has Elly ever noticed that she’s the only person who’s actually lifting a finger to save this old theater? Having undertaken the occasional Quixotic stand in the past (not worth doing, then or now, it turns out), I admire the pluck she’s showing. The sandwich board shtick is a little old hat, but these were pre-internet times and it obviously IS getting her noticed, for better or…well, you know the rest.
If my dentist talked stuff like that there to his assistant while I was a paying (and paying very dearly) for my work, I think I would seriously change dentists. The comic is cute….just makes you think.
“Nurse, hand me the big needle. No, the BIG needle.“No, the reallyBIG needle. That’s right. The one big enough to baste a turkey.“Now, just relax, sir. You’re going to feel a little pinch… Followed by a pain that’ll make you think you’re giving birth.”
Although I’ve never walked around with a sandwich board, I’ve done what I could to make folks aware that our local theatre had wonderful live performances.
Of the millions of dollars Lynn made from this strip, how much of that did she donate to theatres? It is unknown unless numbers are released, but it can be speculated that since Lynn Johnston speaks so much of how the theatre business struggled where she was that she would share some of her success and good fortune with those in need.

You can tell this is an early strip. In later ones John used a rubber “dental” dam in his patients’ mouths.
