Better get any agreements in writing, because they may not remember the conversation in the morning…

Being drunk a contract would not hold up not even asking for money for funds.

There’s always a chance he/she fell over from laughing at John.

Maybe John means…take a pic of the drunk, passed out official at the party with your phone, and blackmail him later into doing what you want. Works now-a-days.

You are absolutely denying the role that individual initiative and drive have in their success. There absolutely are folks who have made their own success out of relatively nothing. Bill Gates and Paul Allen come to mind. They started Microsoft with an idea and not much else.

It was probably Rob Ford that fell over.

Is John developing a figure???

The problem here is that no one will take any inventer seriosly if he doesn’t have a degree with extra letters. Many great inventions were designed by people who might have a high school diploma.

The budding genius who grew up poor will never be taken seriously.
