Unfortunately, I typically recognize that I have read a book before, typically by about the end of the first chapter. It frustrates me after I have just bought the book (used) at a library sale or rummage sale. I should keep (I do, actually) a list of the books I have read by certain authors…. but what I really should do (which I do not do) is keep the damn list with me for when I end up at one of these sales. :)
I know my memory is not as sharp as it once was, and there is certainly nothing funny about severe memory loss as one gets older; but at some time in my life, I’ll only need to buy one newspaper…
Being a huge fan of Clive Cussler (before he started letting his son co-write with him) I have read most of his books 2 or 3 times. I don’t recall one named “Skeleton Closet”. It was “Skeleton Coast”, part of his “Oregon” series. (My favorite is still Dirk Pitt, though.)
That’s why when I finish reading a book I put the date I finished it in the upper left corner of the cover….helps!! One or two are worth reading twice…
I keep a list on my computer and only have time for audio books anyway. I place holds online through the library and pick them up when I get an email. Only occasionally do I forget to add the audio book to my list and end up in this situation, but I don’t buy them.

Some authors tend to follow the same plot line. Just the locations and names are different. Betty Neels was one of that type.
