Cliff’s indirectivity is well known on Ballard Street.
He takes a zigzag path wherever he goes…if you approach him while he’s zigging, he immediately zags.
He scares people in the park, inadvertently, when he appears from behind trees, or comes from around the back of the snack bar.
It’s very hard to serve a beer to someone who won’t walk straight up to the bar,and who climbs over the back of his seat in a booth when you approach it.

I’ve heard he won’t even subscribe to DirecTV.

“.. known for his indirectness.” Isn’t that a contradiction in terms? Lack of direction, perhaps directionless-ness …

In his right hand he holds a hose at the ready, to blast those GD kids who are always cutting through his yard.

Even the Ballard dogs are wary, being snuck up on and thrown in the tub for a bath has that effect on one.

Cliff, it’s a little hard to be indirect and inconspicuous when you insist upon wearing shirts that absolutely scream : " Look at Me ! "

Jeffery just can’t quite figure out what is making him uneasy, so he thinks it will be ok for him to go for a walk. Jeffery is never seen again,

One of the creepiest of Van Amerongen’s works. The more you look at it, the deeper the mystery and confusion of emotions. And yet, I laughed!

Cliff better be careful. Some might take him for a “peeping Tom”, or should I say a “peeping Cliff”. :-D

Well, met, Six!
And do all on thy small isle, as well, speak like Robert Newton on this day?

Cliff never figured out why he is always being spotted when he tries so hard to be indirectly hidden.

Jeffery is back, discouraged and dis-eared.
