    Yes, but the expectation is is that in sum, it will consume a smaller amount. Of course, bicycles would be much much better – if we ever bothered to make bicycle-friendly roadways. I couldn’t let my kids ride their bikes anywhere because it was too dangerous.

    When bicycles have to have a yearly test, insurance and pay road taxes and the riders must pass a test and observe the laws of the road (alcohol, drugs, right of way, one way streets etc) then they can share the roads with motor vehicles.

    Hmm, I commute to work by bicycle but I own a car. This means I pay all the taxes other drivers pay.

    You can get a ticket for traffic infractions riding a bicycle. Just about anything you’d get driving a car you could get riding a bicycle.

    It is legal to ride a bicycle on most roads unless posted otherwise.

    I’m unclear then why some people think they have more right to the road than others. How about commercial trucks? They’re bigger and they pay more taxes. Perhaps cars ought to stay off the road and let the professionals use it.
