Here in Canada you do get a miniscule interest payment together with your refund — plus a stern note reminding you to include the interest in next year’s income!
I don’t mind giving the Gov. an interest free loan to get a refund ! With the interest being paid by banks ,I sure as heck not losing much by lending it to the Gov. !
“It was initiated years ago to help support the War efforts” would only apply to the income tax that was done for the Civil War, and it was ended. The current system, which required the 16th amendment to the constitution, was passed by congress in 1909 and ratified in 1913. What war efforts was it supporting?

A sunset is a thing of beauty. A refund check from the IRS is a reminder that you made the IRS’s day by giving them a free loan.

That is beautiful, ha, a refund of your own money with no interest earned. Sunrise is nice, always has my interest.

If the refund is from the Earned Income Credit it is free money.Nothing gets deducted from my pay, but I still get a refund every year.

That just means you’re getting back the interest-free loan you gave the government.
