Actually, it’s just normal “I’ll drive my brother crazy just because I know I can” stuff. Only those who have siblings can really get it.

Remember having to adjust the vertical setting when the picture started rolling? Now there’s no such thing. Shoot, TVs don’t even come with knobs for changing channels or turning up the volume anymore.

We had the first TV in the neighborhood, about two times a week, a couple of my neighborhood friends would come to our house and ask if they could watch ‘Howdy Doody’ with me. Not long after we moved from that house to a new neighborhood, a neighbor across the street got a color TV and invited us to come over to watch ‘Bonanza’. My dad said,’That’s the greatest thing since sliced bread’. About two months later, he got rid of our old ‘Philco’ TV and bought a new ‘Zenith Space Command’ 21" Color TV with remote control.

…..and the local drug store would have a “tube tester” with several different size tube sockets where you could just bring in all your vacuum tubes to see which ones were bad or weak. There was a cabinet under the tester with a stock of the most common tubes, so you could be your own “TV repairman”. aaaahhhhh.

If Michael does not like anything on TV, he could go outdoors, take a walk, read a book, write a letter, or maybe even interact with other human beings. There is no known law that mandates Michael is to sit there like a lump.

How about those old tv sets that had a magnifier in front of the picture to make it appear larger?

A tv cost about 1/2 of what a car cost in the 50s. That is why so many people did not have them.

Not sure TV being his god, but Michael in later strips has wondered why his high school is not like what is shown on “Grease” or “Saved by the Bell”. Also, there was a strip where he was being a smart-alec to Elly, who proceeded to slam him against him the wall and shout “Don’t you ever freshmouth me again, you ungrateful little punk! I am your mother, and I deserve respect.” As she storms away Michael talks to himself: “Sheesh, they don’t react that way on TV”.

Whoa! Just passing through, and noticed your comment on Michael Moore. Do you know the guy personally or what? Otherwise, how would you know how often he takes a bath (I would hope he takes a shower, actually)? Just curious…
