Sorry, I meant you alluded to the first of the “gutter” references that I saw, but I didn’t think your second post was related to mine. Is that song considered innuendo? I can see how it might be a sexual reference, i.e. “I found you much more toothsome as we went to bed last night than I did upon waking up with you.” That reading never occurred to me… (I’m aware of the song, but only just.)
No, my second reference had to do with another meaning of “coming out.”
I have a third way to read something less-than-wholesome into today’s strip; specifically, what the other diners might assume is going on when the lady is under the table while the guy is still seated.
Oh, yes, it was Juliet and Elliot, and they were in a restaurant, and he was falling asleep at the table. After a while she got sufficiently annoyed at this, and crawled under the table, and the next thing you see is: now she is out of sight, but he is wide awake with a very startled expression on his face.

Cleaning under the desks was a punishment I used to use for gum chewers in my classroom. They seldom did it again!

You’re not trying hard enough. I immediately saw at least two ways to drag today’s strip into the gutter.

Blown out of proportion, no doubt, Fritz.

^^^ That’s one, freeholder. The second is a bit less obvious…

Ancient country funny song reference. You are likely too young, Fritz.

I won’t go into any more detail than that.

But @SherlockWatson! Just the other day I saw a cartoon about just that situation. Must have been an old one from 9cwl - where else would anyone dare…
and it wasn’t a joke about what could have happened, either. IT HAD HAPPENED to the characters in the strip!!
It had a reference to the (previous, not the present) Clinton, too, I think

oops, this is not Pibgorn where I am at, is it? Never mind, I’ll leave it here. Maybe it’ll attract some new readers?

and in the interest of providing still some more information for the next generation(s):
Does your chewing-gum-lose-its-flavour-on-the-bedpost-overnight?
When your mother says, “Don’t chew it,” Do you swallow it in fright? Can you catch it on your tonsils Can you bounce it left and right?
Does your chewing-gum lose its flavour on the bedpost overnight?
There! Now I feel noble and self-satisfied! (because who else but me is gonna appreciate this?)

Nobly done, dear person. Thanks for referencing me.
