You could literally knock out a robber with the handset of one of the old Bakelite monsters of the 50s or early 60s, then call the cops (works even during a power outage) and tie him up with the cord until they arrive.
When the power goes, your cell phone only goes if the tower loses power. Since it’s not necessarily right next door, it might lose power when you still have it, or vice versa. In my case, we have phone service via cable, so if we lose power, the “land line” is dead, too.

“Works even during a power outage”-Which is why land-line phones are still needed.Because when power goes, your cell phone goes with it!

All the towers in my area have back up power.The local emergency management systems have their repeaters on them.
