Earl was trying to say that he doesn’t believe everything he knows is true is actually true, because knowing something is true may be just that you believe it to be true. People once knew that the world was flat……………..
When I was young I loyalty defended my beliefs that others showed me were pathetically wrong. I now am not so loyal and not only listen to opposing beliefs, but (drum roll) be convinced that I was wrong.
My mother told me:
Those men would not be in Washington if they didn’t know what they were doing.
Sorry Mom, I believed for a long time.
I think it was Will Rogers who said, “It ain’t what you don’t know that gets you in trouble – it’s what you do know that just ain’t so.” Earl is old enough to have become wise. (It takes some people longer than others, and some never live quite long enough to make it. So Earl is actually ahead of the game.)
I stick with my own belief right here in the bible! Not that rubbish DNA between humans and chimpanzees that goes with evolutionism…. Phhhhttt! :-p
Earl, you better stick with your own belief! :-)
“There are known knowns. These are things we know that we know. There are known unknowns. That is to say, there are things that we know we don’t know. But there are also unknown unknowns. There are things we don’t know we don’t know.”
Some things we know because someone sounded like they knew what they were talking about. Some may have been right, some may have been wrong, some were con men.
Gee JOE I give an example of changing my belief in the men in Washington and you say believing in Jesus. Now I believe in Jesus but I don’t believe he was elected to Congress. Please give me chapter and verse. I have read many very learned men who have discussed the holy book for over 500 years. None of them has been as certain that they were right as you. Please teach me the way so I’ll not be led astray by the Luther’s, the Beckett’s or the Popes.
Must be great to have God tell you things. I myself have never heard voices, but maybe if I listen to you I will.
just ignore that Haldane himself said his calculations were likely wrong and that in the 50 years since it has been shown that he did, indeed, use invalid assumptions?
Today’s “scientific fact” (knowledge) is tomorrow’s debunked myth. What science tells us we “know” is often shown to be inaccurate later on.
Science is also limited in what it can properly be applied to. For example, science cannot prove that Abraham Lincoln existed, nor can it prove what he said or what he did. These things are in the realm of History, not Science. Similarly, science cannot prove that which belongs to the realm of testimony, such as in a court of law.
Real scientists recognize the limitations of science. On the other hand, worshipers of “Scientism”, as you could call it– science exalted beyond what it is capable of doing– dogmatically attack anyone who places their faith in anything besides science.

What i know often changes and so I no longer believe what I once knew as fact.
I know I am going to die some day but I also believe I am invincible. Therefore I do not believe that i am going to die.

I know you think you believe that you understand what you thought I said, but you failed to take into account that what you heard is not what I meant.

Spammers now, they evolved from rabid hyenas.
Oh wait! I promised not to insult the hyenas anymore.
