That first panel looks more like Pig’s re-enacting the shower scene from Psycho with the way he’s holding the screwdriver.

Interesting that Pastis chose a flat head screwdriver over a Philips. Guess he wanted to make certain it wouldn’t loose as much detail when shrunk down in papers and still be recognized as a screwdriver. That and flatheads would be a little easier for him to draw.

I remember a “Pearls” strip where Pig asks his neighbors if they’ve found Jesus (stolen from his Christmas nativity scene).

I think the result would have been the same if Pig had adressed to the guy saying: “wanna see my babydolls?”

Pig has a recurrent problem with awkward phrasing. This time, the girl’s boyfriend only beat the snot out of him rather than doing permanent damage….

Most cafes don’t let you make babies at the counter… you have to use a table.

True story… Once upon a time at the bookstore where I work, a new employee, a shy sixteen year old boy, was approached by a nervous acting mid-twenty-ish female customer. What she was looking for was a new book on the subject of overcoming infertility that was very popular at the time. But the question that she managed to fumble out to the kid was, “I’m trying to have a baby. Can you help me?” He just gave her a slack-jawed uncomprehending look till I turned to her and said, “I know the book you’re looking for. Let me show it to you in the Family and Child section.”

Good job he didn’t ask PM David Cameron, or he’d have got an even bigger surprise.

It would have been funnier if Pig asked the man.

But either way, I got a great laugh.

    Thank you, Mr. Pastis!

i remember my bar days when every so often there’d be a nuts and bolts night. nuts and bolts of all different sizes would be distributed and you were supposed to find the nut that fit your bolt or vice versa. the ensuing dialogue i will leave to your imaginations.

Reminds me of the poor girl in High School who looked at her glasses one day, and announced, “I need a screw!”
