    good use of a French proverb there! Full marks!

    (Well, it’s an axiom, perhaps, or maybe even a quote from Moliere or Dumas or somebody, but I remember it from doing French lit at school…)

    (although, sometimes a fat man is just a greedy bastard who can’t bear to put the knife and fork down…)

    The proverb USED to be true. Only the well-off could afford to eat three (or more) full meals a day, and could afford plenty of meat, cheese, and so on. The poor had to struggle by on fresh vegetables and whole grains, and could only eat their fill on special occasions. Nowadays, there’s plentiful, processed, and fatty foods easily obtainable no matter what your budget, while the rich eat tiny portions of healthy foods at exhorbitant prices in fancy restaurants…
