Not fetch exactly, but every cat I’ve ever had would run after stuff that you throw. They wouldn’t necessarily bring it back to you, but then, why should they? If you threw it away from you then you must not have wanted it.
We have 3 cats and of the 5 I’ve ever had, the current male cat loves to play fetch with a red/white Christmas mouse. And when it goes missing for awhile, as it is now, he (the cat) gets a little strange. Actually, it’s not missing, he just can reach it where he tossed it or set it down after the last throw. It’s so much fun!!!!!
Our cat Alexandra added her own special twist to fetch. We’d throw either a “jingle-ball” or a milk jug ring down a flight of stairs. If it landed anywhere except the bottom, she would knock it all the rest of the way down to the bottom. Only then would she pick it up, bring it up the stairs, and drop it in front of us. We actually have video of it.
We had a siamese that would find a AA battery(if a toy or the remote dropped and it spilled out), She would carry it in her mouth, all the time meowing(announcing that she had a battery)

@grasshopper, the hurt never quite goes away, my cat died in 2006 and I still miss him.

Hey Jon! Instead of a fetching stick, try a mozzarella stick. And for future reference, instead of a dingleball, try a meatball. Cat’s gotta eat.

My cat occasionally plays fetch, but only with select toys.

“Fetch” involves bringing the item back. Garfield would never “fetch” a lasagna. He’d keep it for himself.

Try dangling a ball of wool in front of him instead.
