Okay, THIS is “Shoulders” appearing with Pruneface! Bud Jenkins was a kid who died while abetting (and blackmailing) Flattop! “The Chalice”? You got me there!
Hooray — still b&w!! Could it be that we don’t need a petition? Maybe multiple Harvey Awards have given Mike & Joe enough clout to exert complete creative control over how the strip is presented? It’s Tracy Noir…
We are about to meet up with Bud Jenkins (first appearance January 21, 1944). The Wikia entry says, “Bud Jenkins was a ten-year-old boy living with his mother (who worked nights in a defense plant). His father had passed away some time earlier.”
Aside from feelings of some boredom and mild irritation -Diet’s BLURRED IMAGE (i.e. Alternate World Travel)? seems to be working well - no resistance or imprecise Time Slots popping up frustrating the efforts ! ?The only shortfall is that the picture BLURRING is translating into ‘black and white’ images on Go Comics ?

Since Gasoline Alley is also in black & white, I think we have a crossover in the making. The Gasoline Alley story is already a crossover with Mutt and Jeff. And, we will soon find out that Jeff has been murdered by one of the thugs in this story.

.Good morning guys!.❼ days until my 81st birthday! Will Vista Bill and Vitamin Flintheart make an appearance in DT for my birthday? What a wonderful present that would be!
This has been the best thread ever, since Gould retired. I think the team is loving to bring back the old characters and draw them too.
Although most probably the colorist is behind, I will agree. We do NOT need color this time. I’m also looking at the strips over here – http://www.chron.com/entertainment/comics-games/comic/Dick-Tracy/
The only thing I do not like about that site, is there is no sunday strips. But also this is the only place I can get to comment as well. So both have me hooked.
I like the comparison of the shape of Flattop’s head to a chalice.
Think of how many of Gould’s characters (both law-abiding and not) have been named based on their physical appearance or behavioral quirks.
“The Chalice” is a very Gouldian-sounding name for a grotesque character. It could have easily been another nickname for Flattop based on his physical appearance.
Didn’t someone break the vessel with the pestle? So the pellet with the poison was in the chalice from the palace, and the flagon with the dragon had the brew that was true.
Gweedo cautioned,They’re just a bunch of bad actors unlike the vaunted venerated, one-and-only majestic ridge runner, Vista Bill !-————————————————————————-.I’m pleased that I am among the (living) accepted, Gweedo. My patrolling the neighborhood cemetery as a child paid off!
This could almost be one of MAD Magazine’s parodies, except they almost always used square dialog boxes instead of round dialog balloons. Plus, does the Tracyverse have a MAD Magazine?
Hope we get to see Pruneface’s main Squeeze. Mrs. Pruneface.____________________
Years ago, a friend and I were driving on the highway in the slow lane, when it slowed way down to a crawl, so I swung over into the middle lane to pass.
The reason the traffic had been going so slowly?
Someone was driving at about 30mph or so, if even that.

I don’t think the Gasoline Alley being B & W has any significance to this story because the Seattle strip site has it in color, the same as it’s Tracy strip. I think that story is going to be some kind of Halloween hoax and Jeff will turn up alive. Jim Scancarelli is very reluctant to kill off characters in his own strip. I doubt he’d kill off another strip’s character.
The reference to Bud Jenkins leads me to believe the Chalice will be Flattop. So many people have wanted to see Flattop so this is the best opportunity to have him since there are no plans to resurrect the real Flattop. As I said, I think this is someone’s fantasy of a reverse world. We probably won’t find out in what way until the end of the story.

By association, “The Chalice” must be Flattop!

Interesting alternate world! Bud Jenkins would be like Junior to this"Chalice", who very likely would resemble Flattop!

It should be “What is the Chalice?”… an object rather than a person. A code name for some type of weapon, perhaps?

Taking a cue from Star Trek’s episode Mirror Mirror, will our good Tracy end up in this alternate universe?

Considering “THE CHALICE” is in quotes both times, I’m convinced it’s a person, too. In this case, probably a police informer. Sort of like the Pouch.
