Quick would be nice, but if the rest of the electoral process worked this way, Trump would immediately become president — until an even louder know-nothing came along. I’ll stick with our current system, for all its flaws.
It could, if we had a system were each party had a designated candidate on hand, so we could get right to the election. Or else a system of a short-length schedule of primaries/caucuses and a ban on fund-raising and free (political) speech at all other times. Which is pretty unconstitutional.
