My Mozart used to “encourage” me along just like a border collie would. If I wasn’t going the way he wanted it was head butt and ankle nips. Only tripped over him twice though

Our current herd is made up of reclaimed offspring of ferals who took up housekeeping on our land from one time to another. Since we socialized them all from tiny, wee kitten-hood, it is interesting to observe that, while they innately know the “motion,” they have never figured out the “connecting” part. We just sincerely appreciate all the “air bumps” we are offered, and let them know we understand what they are trying to say. One very sweet tiny, calico, the shyest of them all, but loves pets once she works up the nerve, at 6 just accidently discovered, “head bumps.” Very skittishly, and with great encouragement, she managed to knock out 3 or 4 before she realized what she was doing. Then she booked back to her cushion. grin.

re: Special report: We have had rescue Border collies for over thirty years — boys, one girl, young, old, one mix, one senile, and all of them absolutely delightful. If you want a toy, PLEASE get something plastic. If you want to give as well as receive, and get more than you give, there’s a “rescue” with your name in her or his heart.

I always feel very flattered when a cat acknowledges me as “one of their own.”

Sox head-butts to get my attention in any room; but Abe, my beautiful black cat, rams into the back of my legs pushing me into the stove or sink. But he claims to love me best…

At our house, we call it the Mexican Cat Dance. Because that’s what we do in an effort to not fall over the ankle weavers. :)
