“Raiders” always struck me as having a certain streak of Sartre to it—consider that in the climax, the Nazis get the Ark and are liquefied when they open it. Things would have turned out the same if Indiana Jones had stayed in the bar in Nepal making up with his old girlfriend. All his heroics and adventures were ultimately pointless. What could be more existentialist than that?
