It draws me into the full mood of Autumn, harvest season, and the sweet chilly thrill of the ghostly holiday… and nicely sets up anticipation for Thanksgiving. For that holiday, I re-read Capote’s “A Thanksgiving Visitor,” and for Christmas, “A Christmas Carol.” In different ways, all three of these are ghost stories, about the “spirits” of the holidays.
