Now all needs to do is change his name to “Peter, Peter, Pumpkin Eater.”

So…it’ll become just like a college dorm room.

He won’t want to stay there after the first hard frost.

On the plus side he can have all of the pumpkin pie he can eat.

“Had wife and couldn’t keep her” means he couldn’t afford to feed and house her. Related to “housekeeping” and “kept woman.”

Argh. No edit button. Isn’t that B.C. in the pumpkin? Peter living there would have been so appropriate!

That should bring down property value.

And now finally, BC’s living with Cinderella…

He can eat himself out of house & home!

In some of the later Oz books there was a charicter named Jack Pumpkinhead, he was a pumpkinheaded scarcrow brought to life by a witches spell. He constantly needed to replace his pumpkinhead because it would rot or get smashed so he became a pumpkin farmer so he always had a supply of replacement heads. (He also lived in a giant pumpkin and he’d move to a new one whenever it started to rot).

I think that “couldn’t keep her” referred to the fact she went elsewhere for companionship. That is why she was put in a pumpkin shell(coffin)

The ultimate in living with nature!

Wonder if that’s what Zelazny meant by “The Doors of His Face”……
