Further proof that leaf-fall is about a month earlier in the US than here ion the UK. There’s just a couple of species which shed this early here – most trees haven’t even begun to change colour yet. For the Harry Potter fans amongst you, this is one of several ways we know that Snape defected about ten months before the Potters died, not a few weeks – he defected against a bare hillside with recent, blowing dead leaves which in British terms sets the scene between mid November and mid January, not October.

Here in the Vancouver suburbs we get six leaf pickups each Fall. The first leaves usually start falling shortly after the fifth pickup.
