My parents admitted, years after it was safe to admit such a thing, that the candy they took out of our bags for looking suspicious were really their favorites that they would treat themselves to! I mean, it makes sense. They had to drive us to the neighborhoods then walk with us for a couple of hours, sometimes in the rain or snow. The few candies they took was payment, and well deserved I might add…now that I am a parent taking my son out every year.
