And here is the actual beginning of what looks to be a great story/mystery! Here’s to the memory of Gene (“Adam Austin”) Colan 1926-2011! A true artistic genius!
Early morning greetings to all East Coat readers/commenters. And late night greetings to all West Coast readers/commenters.-——-The plot thickens.-——-Have a prosperous day my friends.
Good day to all.It looks like we have a new character becaus eno one seem to recognize the smoking, balding man with a beard. And taking from cpalmeresq’s comments…
Just listened to a late ’30’s Orson Welles episode of “The Shadow” where Lamont and Margo backtracked a threatening note to a specific typewriter, after having narrowed their search to within a specific building …
… so that sort of detection has a rich and lengthy history.
@Gweedo or assuming the letter is not made by journal letters pasted, like in The Baskerville Hound.I bet the letter sender is Blackjack. How dare they insult his idol!
Our new tales just about four weeks on, and happily, here is the first indicator of a real crime. Not a violent one mind you, just threats that, could convert into something deadly by Sunday ? We’ve taken our time getting here, but no harm, that’s all right. Different writer – different style.
Less, or a slower information flow, likely creates “uncertainty”, the stepping stones to a profound “Mystery” for the occasion ahead (?)
And perhaps “that’s” the objective here (?) An answer should be along soon ?
Seems logical for something BIG to flow out this Sunday !
Might be ‘reading’ too much into it, but with Gene Coleman the bald headed friend on the right, smoking the pipe, could well be seen as ‘signal’ from Joe that Sam will be ‘lighting one up’ - come Sunday ?And likely, more in character than pulling a trigger !
Can Tracy do handwriting forensics ?…Assuming the note was done by hand.
I’m sure he can if it’s handwritten. Typewriters can be identified, too, but not many people use them these days.
Another possibility is that it’s a printout of an email (although the folds suggest it is not). Some junior colleges (CEGEPs) here in Quebec were closed twice last week because of emailed bomb threats and this week, one CEGEP and about 70 high schools and elementary school all over the province received similar threats and many had to be evacuated. There are three teenagers from the local area around me that were arrested and are now out on bail with strict curfews, no access to cell phones or computers, and several other conditions.
“Another” threatening letter, so someone has a grudge. Just how far is this grudge? We saw Vera Alldid in a veritable conniption about “Midnite Mirror,” and with Tracy blowing him off by staying clear of the production, would Vera go further to resort to mailing threats?
Always a pleasure to see Honeymoon. What a great shirt! The space-theme is very fitting. She is feeding her Lunarian and Human sides, so each gets a slice. Fueling the fires of adolescence. Better keep that fridge well stocked, Junior.
That girl is sure one two-fisted eater !Teen growth spurt, Full speed ahead !!!-——————————————-Junior’s prepared. That’s a four slice toaster next to her.
A few days ago, I said maybe it’s Blackjack out to protect Tracy’s image. While he has a code of not hurting innocent people (or Tracy), Blackjack may not think Adam Austin is very innocent for hurting the image of the top cop.
That image of Tracy in the Mother Goose strip is based on a specific panel drawn by Chester Gould. It appeared on October 27, 1952, during the “Mr. Crime” story. Much later, it was enlarged and used as the cover illustration for a book called “Dick Tracy – America’s Most Famous Detective” I notice that the strip gives a nod to Dick Locher, but that doesn’t really look like his style of drawing.
It’s the surviving members of the Jones family, threatening a defamation of character lawsuit for how their patriarch (Flattop) is portrayed…____________________
Here’s the interesting thing …
They’re receiving threatening letters, but not legal “cease-and-desist” orders, so far as we know.
What does this tell us?
That whoever is sending the correspondence is likely someone either lacking or unwilling to engage in a legal recourse.
Getting on board late, and most of the pertinent comments have already been made. Multiple threatening letters against Adam Austin at the film studio suggest the threats should be taken seriously. Time to bring the police in….
@Gweedo – It’s legal here !!! – Murray wrote here last night:Vitamin doesn’t have the mentally addlepated look for a Magoo. I suppose makeup can fix that. He just strikes me as not the comedy type.
Vitamin does take himself very seriously, but I think he would scoff at anyone who suggested he couldn’t do comedy. In fact, his role in Arsenic and Old Lace as Teddy Roosevelt was a rather comedic role, though perhaps not quite like Mr. Magoo.
As for makeup, you can do some pretty amazing things with makeup. Consider what was done in the 1990 Dick Tracy movie, which won an Oscar for Best Makeup.

Looks like my hypothesis that “Adam Austin” is a pseudonym has been invalidated. :(

Wonder if Vera Alldid has taken up a one-man letter writing campaign against that movie?
AnyFace about 9 years ago
The person writing the letters might not necessarily be the person who will take action against the production.

Yeah, I noticed that, too. Can’t get the food into herself fast enough! I’ll bet those high-energy discharges burn a lot of calories!

Tracy appears as the gag in today’s Mother Goose & Grimm strip. They give a shout-out to Dick Locher but spell his name wrong. Ouch!

The film studio guy with the letter in his hand may be the producer for the movie. We’ve seen the director already, so he isn’t the director.

Um, someone needs to be more careful proofreading the text.
Second panel: chracters should be characters.

An injured party?
Or …
… A Dastardly Criminal?
Discuss!
