I’m writing this strictly from memory, but “Gronk!” is the noise certain dinosaurs made when startled. “Grog” the character was named after the sound he made, “Grog!” Grog was apparently frozen alive in a chunk of ice at some time earlier, and thawed out to join the the other characters in the strip. I don’t mind if somebody proves me wrong on this. I used to have the pertinent strips, but lost them over the years.
