Calvin and Hobbes by Bill Watterson for November 09, 2015
Transcript:
Calvin: I wonder how long it's been since I last looked at the clock. Maybe it's been an hour. Calvin: Well, actually it's probably been only 40 minutes. I'll guess half an hour to be safe. Calvin: 20 seconds?!!? Calvin: it's gonna be a very bad day. Teacher: Calvin, sit up.

This is what most of my workdays are like.

I remember a job where we had to man an exit for an hour. There were four clocks there. So no matter which way you look, you’re always staring at one.

Yep, Calvin’s School days (any given school year):0 good days; ~157 bad days.During the calendar year, however, it’s different:again, no good ones; but 365 bad ones (366, if it’s a leap year!).

Some of my nights are like that.

Bit like Wagner: the opera starts at eight and after listening for three hours you glance at your watch and it’s ten past eight.

I’m like that on a plane. Four hours to escape winter. It takes forever. I’d like to take a valium or two, and just not be there. Last year it took about 20 hours to reach my destination, waking up, getting to the airport, 2 hours, waiting to board the plane, 3 hours, getting on the plane, waiting 2 hours on the tarmac as they offloaded excess fuel, and changed the flight crew, finally getting into the air for four hours, waiting at the next airport for hours and hours, because there had been a medical emergency, and my next flight had been cancelled. I almost had to spend the night in the airport. Another hour on the second flight, then an hour clearing customs. Longest day in memory, and I was like Calvin the whole time.

Calvin’s teacher, Miss Wormwood has a lot of headaches with him, and you can bet she will be happy when she finally retires!

When you get old, Calvin, it works the other way around. It’s hardly worth taking the Christmas tree down….

Calvin needs a better outlook on life. If you think it is a bad day then it is.

Not a comment on today’s strip but still C and H related:.Bill Watterson announced the end of Calvin and Hobbes 20 years ago today. I felt it was worth bringing up since we appear to be on the same timeline now, nearing the end..Here’s his letter to newspaper editors:.“Dear Reader:
I will be stopping Calvin and Hobbes at the end of the year. This was not a recent or an easy decision, and I leave with some sadness. My interests have shifted, however, and I believe I’ve done what I can do within the constraints of daily deadlines and small panels. I am eager to work at a more thoughtful pace, with fewer artistic compromises. I have not yet decided on future projects, but my relationship with Universal Press Syndicate will continue..That so many newspapers would carry Calvin and Hobbes is an honor I’ll long be proud of, and I’ve greatly appreciated your support and indulgence over the last decade. Drawing this comic strip has been a privilege and a pleasure, and I thank you for giving me the opportunity..Sincerely,Bill Watterson"

We’ve all been there, Calvin. Fortunately, I only have to get up early once or twice a week now. Depending on what appointments I have to go to.
In my personal opinion, It doesn’t matter what time you go to bed. It’s the time you get up. I’ve went to bed early and got up early. I was still tired.
We speak from our own experiences and that’s what I’m doing now.

On the subject of time…Since light travels faster than sound, some people appear bright until you hear them speak.

When you get older, Calvin, you can look forward to the same experience at the DMV. Or when your wife, Suzie, drags you to the ballet.

It’s about time…
A blonde and a redhead met in a bar after work for a drink, and were watching the 6 O’clock news. A man was shown threatening to jump from the Brooklyn Bridge.
The blonde bet the redhead $50 that he wouldn’t jump, and the redhead replied, “I’ll take that bet!” Anyway, sure enough, he jumped, so the blonde gave the redhead the $50 she owed.
The redhead said “I can’t take this, you’re my friend.” The blonde said “No. A bet’s a bet”. So the redhead said “Listen, I have to admit, I saw this on the 5 O’clock news, so I can’t take your money”.
The blonde replied, “well, so did I, but I never thought he’d jump again!”
