I assume that “The Eyebrows” is probably a reference to something, but I have no idea what.

And I guess it was indeed Tracy doing the narration yesterday.

So, he got typecast as a detective and landed the part of Boss Tracy, which essentially fits his typecasting, so he was happy.

Might be a pun, or dense series of puns.

    “Private Eye” …

    “Eyebrows” …

    “Highbrows” …

Might be a riff on Orlock’s physiognomy.

Peter Capaldi’s Doctor is immediately recognizable, just by viewing his eyebrows.

There are also numerous references to prominent, likely fake, eyebrows in the anime FLCL …

Orlock reminds me most of all of Robert Loggia, star of T.H.E. Cat in the 1960s, a great show that unfortunately lasted only one season. Loggia had prominent eyebrows and was a real action hero (or anti-hero) in his prime. His long, distinguished career thereafter tends to bury memory of his earlier work. Loggia at 85 is still with us….

I don’t see that it has to be one specific reference. Many actors, famous from one specific role, have struggled with the same thing.

Interesting – a character based on a physical characteristic that ISN’T a villain. (What would Gould say?)

More “Face Time” for a dead man, Orlock ! ?

They have him center stage, even firing a gun . . .WOW! Like a promise of things “to come”?

But how can a dead man return ?Is he really dead ?.Or is Mike having him there as a ‘teaser’, to confuse the ‘in-house detectives here, who may via to spot the murder before it’s announced ?

Hope he’s not ‘tripping-up’ Bob-Oscar’s well meaning efforts again ?‘Curtailing’ what’s ‘run of the mill’ information, is not helpful to his well meaning readers

Lizz knew that if she didn’t help this boring story along Dick was capable of babbling on for hours and hours. I mean,” Who gives a Vitamin Ham Sandwich” about a has-been actor in a has-been show? She was so bored she had to resist the urge to eat another piece of paper. Lizz had that weird way of handling stress for as long as she could remember and “believe me, working for these old geezers was really stressful!”. “Didn’t he have his own television show?”.As soon as Lizz saw that classic Tracy “Know it all” smirk and the nostalgic glimmer in his eyes she immediately knew she had made a tactical error in judgment and quickly reached into the file cabinet for another piece of comfort paper..“This is not ending anytime soon”, she thought to herself as she figuratively kicked herself in the rear over her terrible, mind numbing time wasting blunder and prepared for another dose of Tracy Tranquilizer!

Hey everyone, it’s not just George Reeves. Take Adam West (please!). To this day, he’s typecast as the campy TV Batman. But he learned to with that, unlike what happened to Reeves.

A two fisted shooter !Not even Tracy does that !!Well, sometimes he does!Sept 24, 1961 (a Sunday spread) had Tracy kicking in the door of a crook’s apt. with a gun in both hands. I had to go back in my reprint collection to find it, but I remembered it because it made such an impression on me back when I was 10 years old. I had a couple of friends who follwed DT with me, and I remember commenting on it at the time.(I have no idea if that strip is available on-line – perhaps one of our tech savvy friends can find it and post it.)

Background information on the victims is a staple of detective shows, etc.

This is my idea of where “Eyebrows” comes from. (Excuse the rotten photos — I didn’t want to break the binding of one of the few MAD paperbacks I have that’s actually sort of collectible.)

My understanding is there is still some question as to whether Reeves committed suicide or was murdered….

There’s been lots of speculation about that, from books (“Hollywood Kryptonite”) to films (“Hollywoodland”) – We’ll probably never know for sure, though neither alternative is a particularly pleasant one.

Yet “Boss Tracy” isn’t a cop or private dic, he is a master criminal. So it would be something different and not typcasting.

That’s why it’s so perfect. It’s not the same, but it’s not different either. It takes his typecasting and uses it for a different purpose.

I’m not sure that makes any sense. I’m getting tired. I need a nap.

I don’t know as much about Mike, but I know Joe, even as a professional, is a fan. Well, Mike must be as well, with the references we see in the strip. It would be “inconTHIEvable!” that they wouldn’t be hip to the great parody work of Wood (and I’m not sure who wrote it — Gary Belkin?).

It’s a small thing, but here I am, still writing about it a day later. No surprise.
