It reminds me of the ‘Mathematicians’ clock hanging in a computer lab at the local college. It has a math equation denoting each of the 12 numbers on the face of the clock.
The square root of x^2 is positive or negative x, and “negative x” wouldn’t have made sense. So in the book version of this comic he changed it to the cube root of x^3, which is, of course, just positive x.
