Frazz by Jef Mallett for November 06, 2015
Transcript:
Caulfield: Big pep rally over at the high school. Apparently we are going to beat stanwood because we are better than them, madder than them and we want it more. Four more deadly sins and we could win regionals. Frazz: I don't know. Two of them are gluttony and sloth.

Don’t you remember High School? Lust always works.

Would “want it more” be considered lust or greed? I suppose it depends on what it is that is wanted?

Since the strip “Frazz” can kind of come at things from a different angle, I was wondering if the gluttony and sloth might be referring to all the food people will eat at the game and the trash they will leave behind because they are too lazy to throw it away (Seeing Frazz handle the large bags of trash got me thinking along that line, anyway).

The Wolf In Your MidstSports, you are right; suffering, try the last half of Matthew 25. We have the brains, but we rather use them to design more efficient ways to kill each other.

It’s the TEAM that will not do well if it succumbs to gluttony and sloth (overeating and laziness).

… and you say that like it were a bad thing!

Well, in context gluttony may be useful, as long as you’re hungry for wins and not for the training table. But sloth won’t get you anywhere.

Night-Gaunt49It took my kids three years to discover their Canadian high school had a football team, and they never did find out if they played US high school or Canadian professional rules. However, house games (think Hogwarts intramurals) were expected participation. Mens sana in corpore sano. More emphasis on lifetime sports rather than spectator ones would also help reduce the obesity problem in this country.
