Calvin once asked his father why eyes are shut when you sneeze. Dad said if the eyes weren’t shut, the impact of the sneeze would stretch the optic nerves and send your eyes out of their sockets.
Back in the late 70s/early 80s, Westinghouse Broadcasting (which later actually bought CBS, but then let the CBS name survive) had a local show called “Evening Magazine.” The San Fran station (which created the show) cut a story profiling Robin Williams (RIP). At one point, over video of Robin and his mom, the voiceover mentioned how much of Robin’s off-the-wall humor was influenced by his mom…at which point they showed mom faking a sneeze, followed by this long, khaki-colored thing appearing to dangle from her nose. Robin screamed, “Mom, that’s disgusting!!” Mom had cut a large rubber band and held it beside her nose, so that when she faked the sneeze and dropped one end of the band, it looked like she had about a ten-inch booger hanging out.

It’s a well known fact that if you pick a hamster up by his tail, his eyes will fall out. So don’t ever try that!
