Personally I always liked “Brave New World” better than "1984.’ (For that matter, I liked “Animal Farm” better, too…..) You’ll notice that Snoopy would never dream of asking Lucy for permission to use up part of her year!
Incidentally, 1984 was, in my opinion, one of the best years of the strip. This was the year in which Peppermint Patty visited Paris and Schroeder willingly kissed Lucy on the cheek. I know that most Peanuts fans aren’t wild about Spike, but there were some memorably poignant strips about his lonely life in the desert that year which were the best comic strips about loneliness that I have seen. Pig-Pen also made two great appearances (one with Violet).

No, it wasn’t. And the jury just went into deliberations about 2016 — check back with us in 360 days!

I’m assuming Linus means Orwell’s book, not the actual year.

H’m. Wonder what year was on the original strip?

Linus is referring to the George Orwell novel and not a year to come.

It is interesting how the gang of Peanuts thinks.
Lucy owns a year? Linus asks permission to use part of her year?
This is refreshing to read as 2016 starts. I enjoy the relationship between Lucy and Linus.

Don’t worry Linus, we all know something is going to make her give up the year

We had the technology in 1984, it just took another 25 years to be true.

I remember 1984. I frequently visited my headquarters in Los Angeles. I spent a lot of time on I-405, the Official Parking Lot of the 1984 Olympics.
Back then it was either the San Diego Freeway or just I-405. Today it’s THE 405.

A few hours? That’s Lucy being generous.
Still it could be worse. She could have easily said a few minutes!

George Orwell actually got it right! He was just 30 some years early…
