So… he’s too helpless to make his own toaster waffle .. All he can manage is to play tic tac toe against himself (nobody ever wins) and wait till Mommy-wife gets up. and she’s 25 minutes late, so lunch will be delayed. .. and that means no dinner till 5:45.Waah .. boo hoo… sniffle.
I don’t know what he’s whinging about, he eats only one meal a day, anyway — all day! It’s just that it’s broken up into ‘courses’ — breakfast, second breakfast, elevenses, luncheon, twixt-snackies, dinner, tea, supper, high tea, afters, and a few other snackies, including after supper and midnight, with a couple of ‘whine and cheese-Louise’ courses interspersed throughout. Did I forget anything?
In his dreams, Burl is a Hobbit. Breakfast, second breakfast, elevenses, lunch, tea, dinner, and supper, and he has several more suggestions: midnights, prelunch, prime time fillup, and make-up breakfast. He would be an enthusiastic supporter of the quest. Left more for him at home. .In his Lord of the Onion Rings dream world, Dale is the slightly dim sidekick who is actually the smartest of the bunch, having the sense to court the bar owner’s daughter. Jerry is their constant antagonist as he desperately tries to steal back the last ring. Joy and Marlene are elf princesses. (Elves are much fatter and uglier in Burl’s Middle Earth.) Joy is destined to be his bride. She can almost, but not quite, eat more than he can. Marlene will diminish and go into the West where the sun rises on a white shore and a vast expanse of Walmart stores. Timmy gets eaten by one of those wolf things. Burl never liked him much, the sanctimonious smirking little know-it-all. .But Burl would fit in anywhere in Middle Earth. He has the brains of a troll, the ego of an elf, the table manners of a dwarf, the personal hygiene of an orc, and the generosity of the Dark Lord on a bad day.
