Richard's Poor Almanac by Richard Thompson for November 04, 2015
Transcript:
richard's poor almanac november skywatch by richard thompson this month the "sun", a flaming ball of mostly hydrogen, makes occasional and increasingly brief transits of the daytime sky. in the d.c. area it is most often glimpsed between morning & evening drivetimes, depending on visibility. man: what was that? woman: where? zip many ancient cultures depicted the sun as a big flaming smiley face, re-garding it as the bringer of happiness & dispeller of gloom. thus seasonal changes and sunsets were frightening - what if the big happy ball didn't come back? it would be the end of the world! this left people anxious, antsy & somewhat depressed, in a kind of fatalistic way. guy 1: look - it's the end of the world! guy 2: and me in this silly hat. zip of course, now we know better. lady: hey! the sun's out - nope, too late. zip

In DC today (and yesterday) it has been over 70 F. and sunny.Perfect – but it won’t last. I’ve learned to combat S.A.D by looking at the light in my computer screen. If it’s bright enough to keep me awake, it has to be helping -
