Adam: How do you compete with this business model? Between the mailed DVDs, video on demand and streaming movies... ...The overhead seems prohibitive to operate a brick-and-mortar store. Man: I'm not sure, sir. That'll be $38. Adam: $38 for "The Fantastic Mr. Fox"?! Man: $4 for that. And $34 in late fees for "The Time Traveler's Wife". Adam: What the! $34 in late fees? For that nonsense? Lau-ra! How much to buy that movie and smash it into little pieces? Man: $19.99 to buy...and I don't know... Adam: Ooohhh. I'll take it. Just for the satisfaction I'll get. Man: In about an hour or so when he's calm, I imagine he'll figure out our business model.

They say Blockbuster won’t be around by next year.

Same here with the closings. I have two problems with Netflix. The first is that you have to pay for their service even when you’re not using it. The second is that my popup blocker is useless when it comes to their dam ads.

And I don’t think their selection is as good. I like Blockbuster because you can turn in your online at the store and get a freebie, or half price, plus it registers right away and they send out the next movie in your queue. And the people who work at our local store have been there forever and they are very nice and helpful! Hate to see them lose thier jobs!

I love Netflix!
I get far more than my money’s worth out of it, but I go through about 4 or 5 disks a week (three out at any given time). Sometimes I’ll have one sitting at home that I don’t feel like watching for a couple of weeks after it’s delivered, but there’s no penalty for holding onto it, and I can still cycle through my other two. The turn-around time is fantastic; if I pop one in the mailbox Monday afternoon, I’ll get my next one Wednesday (but I live in a city with a shipping center).
As far as selection goes, what are they missing? My experience has been that, if the DVD I want exists, they’ll have it…
I never tried Blockbuster’s online service, but the selection at their brick-and-mortar stores sucked. Nine million copies of the latest Hollywood schlock, but very little else…
Let them die, let them die, let them die.

I used to work for Blockbuster and I’ll let you in on a secret. There was never a late fee perse, the computer would automatically rerent the movie for the same rental time.
