When we got married, I had to teach my wife how to wash clothes as she had never had to do that chore. It has been over 30 years with her, and I have never done the laundry since then.
It’s great to be a guy, and have women enjoy cooking and cleaning, and serving us so we can be free to follow our own path!
SHE is spending the weekend with the girls. At last I get to clean with scrub brush, cleanser, bleach, Mr. Clean and other chemicals she doesn’t see advertised on TV. Lets see what four years in the Corps taught me. Because of my military training, I feel ready to defend my country in any battle fought with mops and brooms
OK Mr. gabie, you’re in trouble now. You know that we wives can’t let you get away with that comment. And if your wife sees your comment, mine my be the nicest come back you get all day. I hate having to be the one to do the cleaning and washing and the serving. I work at a full time job that is more demanding on me than my spouse’s job.How dare you or any other man with the same thought process ever think it’s the woman’s job to work just as hard at home too with out help from you. Thank you for letting me spew…. that was building for a while.
@newworldmozart - You tell ‘em, Girl! Men like that are one very good reason the divorce rate is so high. We women no longer need them to support us and if we’re going to be doing all the cooking and cleaning anyway, it might as well just be for ourselves.
Some women love a helpless man - it makes them feel needed. I’m pretty resourceful and used to doing things myself. Women don’t tend to stick around if they feel they aren’t needed (from my experience).
And so goes the way the women’s libbers screamed and yelled and ruined the lives of women of my generation onward, then they all backed down, got married and don”t even bother to speak out against Sharia Law, infact, they support it! Now thanks to those 60’s radical wretches, women get to work all day, then come home and still do everything, while many husbands (I did not say all) still come home and do nothing, just like John does in this 1970’s situation. When was the last time you saw any of those women’s libbers actually stick up for women? They haven’t and they don’t.
You women are nuts. If you don’t like doing all the cooking and cleaning, then don’t! The truth is, you do it because you want everything to be your way. You know if you don’t do it, it won’t be done the way you like it, and you can’t stand that. If you get a divorce because your husband “makes” you do all the housework, then y’all clearly didn’t know each other well enough before you got married. Stop whining on internet forums and stand up for yourself!!
FYI–I’m female and in a loving and respectful relationship. I cook and clean only when I choose to, and even then he tells me that I work too hard and I should relax.
@gaebie – most of your comments are just the ramblings of a clueless, old man, but I wanted to say that I’m definitely not a woman who bends over backwards to please a man. Just ask my husband . (and we are happily married. He knows that I do what makes me happy and he does what makes him happy, and fortunately we love each other enough where what makes me happy is sometimes doing what he wants, and vice versa. Does that make him a wimp when he does what pleases me? According to your logic, possibly. ).
If “Teddy” had trouble “doing dishes and things”, then why in the hell did he volunteer to house-sit for them???!!! What would he have said to John and Elly if they had come home from their vacation and the place looked like a tornado had hit it?
Contrary to what Connie thinks, Ted isn’t helpless … he’s anything but!!! He’s just a very smart male chauvinist pig who knows exactly how to use stupid, desperate women (like Connie) in order to get things done for him!!!!! As far as he’s concerned, he’s the man – the master – and all women are good for is sex and servitude! If she takes up with this guy despite everything her best friend has ever told her about him, then she’ll get exactly what she deserves! I have no sympathy for her at all. It’s women like her that gives the rest of us a bad reputation!
I’m one of those awful women’s libbers who fought for the right to work if I wanted to, receive the same education as men (a Ph.D. vs an Ed.D. if I wanted it), have medical care that was appropriate for me instead of just men (i.e., breast cancer research and treatment as opposed to heart surgery), have young girls participation in sports be recognized and compensated (basketball & soccer), and have reproductive freedom (including birth control and abortion when it is necessary).
Wanna go back to the 50’s – ask your mom how much fun it was being a woman when they could refuse to give you birth control, abortion was lethal, breast cancer was not even on the medical research radar, girls were not allowed to play softball, and women could aspire to an Ed.D. but not a Ph.D. from Harvard. In my first job, I was not allowed to wear slacks and most women (including my mother and grandmother) never wore slacks in their life. Many (if not most) women didn’t drive a car or have a driver’s license – because why would they need it? Yeah man bring back the 50’s if that’s what young women think they want today.
Geez! Folks – it’s just a friggin’ cartoon! GRETCHENSMOM and NOTINKSANYMORE — Calm down! I am amazed when I click on my “cartoon of the day,” only to see people so worked up, most of whom are missing the point. Ms. Johnston is poking fun of the quirks in relationships, the mistakes we all make, the contradictions in people’s behavior, the frustrations we encounter. People have gotten so worked up over proper child rearing, proper communicating, proper behavior, when she is showing that we don’t always do what is proper, politically correct, etc. Just enjoy the jabs at the foibles of life – laugh at these things, and get worked up over the real atrocities and inequalities of life.

Connie is all talk and no action. Or maybe she just likes being who she is – she seems happy enough.
