Adam: Should we get your mom some jewelry? Katy: Ooh! Yeah! Adam: Okay. But it's tricky. Your mom deserves the best jewelry in the world... But, unfortunately, we have to be budget conscious, too. Katy: That's really sweet! Adam: I can write it down if you want to casually mention it to her sometime.

Don’t be too hard on Adam. He’s being very realistic. In a marriage, all money comes out of the “general fund”. Spending too much on Laura means they’d have to cut corners someplace else.

I am so fortunate my wife isn’t really into jewelry!
I wish I could say the same for Coach purses and handbags…

Ditch the old-school jewelers, Adam. Science has you covered. Created gems are now better and cheaper than the real thing. They’re getting more clever with precious metals, too, using “enrobing” processes that give you all the gleam without the short durability of mere plating, for a tenth of the price. I can treat my wife to new sparklies every holiday and keep my budget around the cost of just two or three date nights. Plus, she loves them even more because every piece is unquestionably conflict-free!
