Frazz: Why didn't the salivary gland get the name pituitary gland? Miss Plainwell: Shh. Caulfield will steal that for the next "any questions" opportunity. Frazz: I'm not sure I didn't steal it from him.
Very few runners actually spit when they run. Makes no sense to get rid of moisture when you are already dehydrating by sweating (even when it’s cold). Now nose blowing is perfectly acceptable by either sex while running or cycling so that you can breath easier.
Bugs, a fragment of dried leaf, road debris and salt thrown up by passing vehicles—and yes, that last can be pretty bad once they start oversalting the roads. Been there, done that, ptooey!
Marathon ZackAs you know, spitting is more common in distance races (more time to need to, if nothing else), and it was comparatively recently that they even permitted women to run the marathon.

Because it would then have to be called the spituitary gland, and that seemed a little gross!

Spituitary glands would make more sense.

Everyone’s nose is running now along with them. What gland is responsible for that?

An unpleasant thing for anyone to do on a public footway.

It is very unusual to see a woman spitting in the street. It is gross, whoever does it.

O com’on, there must be gross runners, male and female. Why do I read about people urinating on lawns in Hopkinson MA before the Boston Marathon?

I would not steal any joke that is as huge a reach as that. Probably make normal people say “Huh?”

Gym teachers hankies (aka snot rockets), loogies, and, yes outdoor peeing, are pretty much unavoidable side effects of distance sports.
