Never piss off a Receptionist or an Admin. They’re usually way ahead of the curve on what’s happening in a company, and usually there because they’re pretty sharp as well.
True story: I once had a girlfriend who worked as a receptionist for a real estate company that had delusions of grandeur. Everyone had some sort of title on their business cards – including my girlfriend.Her card read Director of First Impressions.
Once worked at a place that had a secretary whose demeanor made Attila the Hun seem polite. But she fit the job perfectly, dealing routinely with rough-talking and acting local union officers.
Reminds me of when my college roomie and her fiance double dated with my astronomy instructor. When she mentioned that I was in his 101 class, he responded, “She’s not too bright, is she?” (that was the only grade lower than a B I ever got in college…and that was before grade inflation)
