Back in the day when Andy was a man, smoked anywhere he pleased, had riotous fights with Flo, and beat up the bill collector, Andy would have stolen those roses, given them to the barmaid, and spent the night drinking free beer and flirting while Flo stayed home ironing and cooking. Ahh, the good old days.
That is so stupid question Andy asks Chalkie about the garden. Sighhhhhh! rolled my eyes up/down! Sheeshhh!
If I were in Chalkie’s shoes, I would dare to put the dirts in Andy’s mouth anyway.
Lewreader, you must be old school like me. I only started reading Andy Capp on here recently after not seeing it for ages. I, too, remember when Andy was constantly scrapping with that bill collector and thumping his wife. I’m not saying that’s acceptable, of course. It’s just the way Reg drew it back then. I made a comment here a month or so ago saying that Andy Capp was removed from our daily paper because of all that violence. especially with his wife. And you’re right. I’m not seeing that cigarette anymore. Times change…
I am old enough to have seen “The Beverly Hillbillies” when it first ran, at least the later episodes. Technically, it was Jethro Bodine who caused the conflict, but I didn’t want to confuse people. In other words, I don’t need a Tudor.

Chalkie, think carefully.

Don’t start that again. The Wars of the Roses ended over 500 years ago.

It looks like Chalkie was a little too wrapped up in his gardening.
He needs to wear a watch while working in the yard, especially during the summer when the daylight hours are long.
Hop to it Chalkie, time’s a wastin’ !

Andy should take a few roses. He can take them to Flo when he comes home a 3 AM. They all melt over roses…

Edcole1961,
The Clampetts went to England in the 60s and started the second War of the Roses. :)
