Ginger is learning something now. For sure, there are no fees as such in Public Schools but the ‘voluntary’ clips here and there and the money spent at fundraisers are a different thing altogether.

Over here usfellers it’s called property tax to pay for the public schools.

In the US, schools are funded by property taxes, but there are additional fees. If we vote down tax increases, the fees go up. If we approve tax increases, the fees usually stay up.

What happened to Joe, aka as OtraVez?

Not that I really care, but just curious.

Frank Corona: There are a lot who do care. Joe still looks in but they have hidden any comments he makes. Not fair, Joe was a good contributor; we learnt a lot from his writings and enjoyed his friendly chats.

Ottod: Looks like US property tax is the same as our Council rates, except they don’t pay for schools, the Government does that. The Council rates are assessed according to the value of properties. Yes, seriously. The assessors assume that the more valuable the property, the more it costs to collect its garbage. On the same logic, perhaps a householder should pay less if a little old lady carrying an umbrella does not walk by between the hours of 2 pm and 3.30 pm on a given Thursday.

Usfellers - Joe was pretty well behaved here, but there were some other cartoons where he attacked other posters and/or cartoonists. Unless you’ve read all his posts, don’t assume it was an unfair banning.

Rmom: I read all Joe’s comments by going through his lists. I assume nothing; he was mostly baited, but of course, the serious baits were deleted once they hit their mark. If he replied adversely to a comment without being baited then, surely, the poster on the receiving end should have been open-minded enough to accept that their opinion may not be shared by all.

As far as commenting on cartoons, isn’t that what the facility to do so implies. Surely, in a land of free speech one can even say the Mona Lisa is a bad painting if one does not like it. ‘Comment’ and ‘Praise’ are not the same thing.

usfellers…..actually I did liked Joes comments about his early years and lighter thoughts, although he did ramble a bit now and then. Since I don’t read all the cartoons I don’t know what he always said. But at times he seemed a bit too touchy. Anyways, it’s too bad. Perhaps some day………..?

I made some comments about Joe on Gasoline Alley. I don’t have the time or desire to repeat them on every strip, but I still stand behind them. I enjoyed reading his comments, at least until some of the hecklers got there to fan the flames.

Sorry, but this really gets me.

Good one Serenasakitty. I have added a short note on Gasoline Alley to suggest it is time to stop making adverse remarks about Joe.

I agree with Dry and serenaskitty. Joe was sometimes entertaining, and no one HAD to read his comments, you could just skip down the column. I MISS JOE-ALLEN DOTY!!!
