There’s nothing wrong with having good manners ! I brought my kids up to address people as Mr. and Mrs. So-and-So or if they were close family friend, Aunt ___ and Uncle ____. Please and thank you, and answering an adult with yes, sir or yes, ma’am were part of their basic vocabulary from the time they could talk. They still ( in their 40’s ) are extremely polite to everyone – as is my 20 year old grandson. My little Ecuadoran grandchildren are, like their parents, also extremely polite. And yes, I still open doors for ladies and hold their chair when they sit down and assist them when they put on their coat !That was how I was raised . In this age of rude selfishness, I thank my parents for teaching me how to be a gentleman.
Ha! I’m no Sal, but my first year at Oberlin (1976) was pretty challenging, too, rooming with a major flamer (and total socialite) ! I toughed it out…. Hey Bob Lazear, wherever you are, hope you’re doing great!

I think we last saw him at their mother’s funeral. He had ditched the Sal Putrid persona and went by Benjy again.
