They’re on your property, and you have a hose.

    “Don’t you mean ‘wetter’?”

I believe Mr. Sweeney’s first name is Liberace.

I know that Ballard Street is a live and let live nieghborhood, but I don’t hink the Sweenys fit in.

The running of the bassets is extremely dangerous. You could easily slip in all that drool.

The Sweenys are fairly blunt, to put it mildly. As Donna Haag pointed out ten years ago, this is a live and let live neighborhood. I have not seen this kind of attitude on Ballard Street before.

Ha Ha! This is a great animation today on Cleo and Company:

Should be “the waddling of the bassets.”

Cleo’s dream reminds of the commercial running with the Bulldogs.

    “Get off my lawn!!!”

Going to a hose fight with nothing but a transparent?!?

Maybe Gladys would ace in a wet t-shirt contest.

    Howdy Cleo pals…

I made it! I may be late… but at least I’m here!

Just in time for the Running of the Bassets, in Basselona…

in the July 24th  2020 “CLEO and COMPANY” on Sherpa!

We also get to see the running of Cleo herself…. if only in her dreams….

though I dare say she’s getting a fair bit of exercise, in real life.

(Hey! She does too have a real life.)

Those stubby little legs can run a lot farther, a lot faster, lying down…

when they don’t have 75 pounds of hound dog to carry.

I know this Cleo strip has appeared a couple of times previously….

and some people (including me) have posted that we “remembered” the “Running of the Bassets” portion as a poster, on its own.

For one thing, it’s so elaborately “tampered” by StelBel, that it looks like one of her posters…

And most of the other animations have cartoon backgrounds, done by Nighthawks.

But Stel has told me… at least twice by now… that it’s only ever been seen as the dream portion of this strip…

with a very animated Cleo in the foreground.

I guess I have to believe it… cos she would know!

Funny, that several of us were willing to swear… maybe even bet good kibble…. that we’d seen it before on its own.

I guess it’s just so striking, we all had the same false memory!

Or maybe it was used in that famous “Basselona” episode of the Twilight Zone.

Perhaps a little re-wording would help. How about “We’re better than nothing.”

The Running of the Bassets?… Don’t their ears get in the way? Waddling is more of what I’ve seen. And speaking of waddling…

The Basset Waddle in Dwight, IL is currently scheduled for 9/19 – 20 and benefits Guardian Angel Basset Rescue. It draws hundreds of these cuties waddling down the main street in town. Fingers crossed they’ll be able to do it as it’s probably their biggest fund raiser.

Cleo knows that she is in first place and will get the ten bags of kibble for winning the race.
