I think it’s just the opposite. The young-earth (ultra-literal interpretation of Genesis) people I know believe even dinosaurs existed just a few thousand years ago. So mammoths would be no problem at all. The evidence for the billions-of-years old earth is so overwhelming and so consistent, you have to believe that God falsified the evidence if the earth is really young. His motive being to trick all the astronomers and geologists into Hell? Sorry if I’m getting too serious. This is a light-hearted comic that I enjoy, but sometimes I can’t resist. Since Joe no longer comments, I feel that I’m called to fill his shoes. (JUST KIDDING!!)

I’d be seriously surprised if any mammoths (or mastadons, or others of that ilk, apart from African and Asian elephants) are running around alive on the Earth today.

Kab Buch, don’t know if you’re referring to me, but Joe once asked me, “Where did you learn your theology, in Sunday School?” I’ve had a couple of run-ins with him. So, if I’m Joe, I don’t know it. But anything is possible. ;-)

Ostra: As to the Science in the Bible, you might try website: “Reason To Believe.” I have nothing to do with the site, but I would suggest it to anyone who thinks the Bible isn’t accurate on most of the science as we get to actually know the science. As you suggest, it is not a science text, but the science, as we begin to understand it more an more, becomes more accurate (In other words, it was never off, but our interpretation of the data and the Bible text were off. We always refuse to admit we are primitive at best in our knowledge of the universe so we pontificate against Scripture as if we were God.

The “day” could easily be a broad range of time since God says himself that a day is as a thousand years to him. But nothing keeps an omnipotent God from actually doing it in a regular day, either. We might just not be able to read the evidence correctly.

And you are quite correct: no one can or does believe or conceive of God exactly alike since we are all limited in our scope of understanding. Which is why we were supposed to have churches and elders and meet as often as possible, to SHARE the nature of Christ in each of us and TELL of him to others. WE are called THE Bride, one being melded by our weaknesses and need for each other. One may be able to have fun with this comic or others here. Another may not be able to. Still another might be offended by anyone even being here.

It’s a mammoth task to just get us together on the fact that we are to love one another DESPITE our various gifts and understandings. And the horns of doctrines can sometimes gore. Try smiling more. I won’t use your words against you. Promise.

If a day is an eon, do you think ancient man could understand that? So man said “day”. I find it quite amazing that scientists and the Bible put creation in the same order.. I will not use the old George Carlin routine.

Lewreader ~ Apparently you stirred up quite a contraversy (spelling) by calling THE ONE WHO MUST BE OBEYED a name. What did she do to you?

Pretty much no one is going to the happy place and everyone is going to the unhappy place. So what does it matter what you do or believe?

Now Now Now LUVH8 You know I would never say a word against my beloved SHE WHO MUST BE OBEYED. I just casually mentioned I saw her bending over (A). Then I mentioned that prehistoric creatures might still be here (B). A has nothing to do with B. They are two different statements. I’ll give you my first born and an ice cream sundae if we never mention this again.

I kind of miss Joe’s comments. Why is he no longer posting?

Now I’m gonna add my 2 cents to the “how did it all get here debate?”

2 possible senerieos: 1) God snapped his fingers a few times and made everything there is all at once (well, over the course of six 24 hour days) 2) God set up the Universe in such a way that physics works, therefore chemistry works, and biology happens. Then he set the whole thing in motion and set back and watched it work. (maybe with the occasional ‘nudge’ here and there, but a really well designed system wouldn’t need nudges)

Of the 2 choices, I think the “In the beginning God created Physics” method requires a much more intelligent, omniscient, omnipotent being that the finger snapping way.

DewSolo - You really don’t have to choose between your two scenarios. God could set up the Universe in six 24 hour days, and set it up in such a way that the laws of science works. Here is a great source to find answers.

Ray C I wasn’t referring to you but I did notice days ago someone I hadn’t seen before very familiar with JAD ways of writing. He would have a lot said on this type of strip. And I’m not in any way JAD.
