Yes, Dale…it’s to keep the noxious, horrific, oxygen depleting stench confined to the one small room whilst the trusty exhaust fan wafts them out into the open air. OSHA rules would require this squad to foot the expense of a holding tank just outside to collect said fumes for deposit at the monthly HAZMAT collection over in ye olde county seat.

I guess the neighbors complained about them using the exhaust fan.

Because when you eat her cooking, you don’t want anything between you and the facilities. “Comin’ thru!!!”

Generally you do not submit a floorplan design with the bathroom off of a kitchen or dining area for health reason. The exceptions is when there is a existing building where there is no other place to put. For example my grandfather house outside of Gettysburg was over a century old when he added a bathroom to the house in 68 and the only place to build it was off of one end of the kitchen. And to had done it right then they should have had a double doorway passage, that would also serve as a landry room. However Grandpa used my aunts washer and dryer as she was just across the road. My point is that the bathroom door in the Burls house does seem to open off of these areas. Who ever drew up those plans should never be allowed to drafted any floorplan ever again.
