I can’t imagine Burl doing anything physical or altruistic. He probably just called for the kid to get off of the road, as the car coming, was delivering his take out, and he didn’t want it to be delayed waiting for the police to question the driver.

Was the $50 before or after the save?
A reward for bravery….
or payment in advance….
say, maybe for not driving down the street while the kids were playing ball…..
and therefore not hitting one of them?
I’d like to give Burl the benefit if the doubt, and say it’s more likely to be a reward ….
that he actually thought about someone else, and grabbed a kid to safety…
or even accidentally fell on some toddler, which coincidentally kept the child from running into the street.
But he doesn’t even know when he does something admirable…. accidentally OR on purpose….
till somebody points out the monetary value.

So he stopped his car before he hit the kid?

Now Burl’s going to go around wearing a red table cloth like a cape looking for kids to save.
