I showed them on ebay how a lot of 18 were selling for $4.99, but they didn’t care. All the same stuf was there the next year…
As one who makes the garage and estate sale rounds on a regular basis, I can tell you that pretty much sums it up. The ones hosting it don’t budge on their self-imposed rules, while the resale people, collectors, con artists and dealers show up early and want cherry picking, discounts, etc. Julie Larson nailed it with this installment.
Advice to “ARS” scout: Back slowly away, avoid any direct eye contact, get into your vehicle and drive away (also do NOT look back at scene through rear view mirror)……
One year just after I got out of college my family had a yard sale and I put several sci-fi and fantasy novels in the sale, the books were by popular authors and in good shape (I take care of my books) and I priced them at $1 apiece (the going rate for a new novel at the time was from $5 to $7). Any sci-fi or fantasy fan would have snapped up all the books at that price, but no fans showed up, and the people who did show up tried to talk me down to 10c or 25c per novel. A couple weeks later I mentioned to a friend (another fan) about how I wasn’t able to sell a single book, and his response was, “Why didn’t you tell me? I would have bought everything at the price you asked.”

My mom probably would have taken the rocks. Every time we went on a trip, we came back with some large ones. I still use them around the flower beds.
