They may have smiles on their faces, but covered with chocolate, who can tell.

Next time the “free” candy will be taken off the counter when the Pennys walk in.

If they put free samples on the counter, then they know the product will sell itself. If the customers have any taste, that is.

Prolonged dead silence and steely-eyed gaze from clerk, then…“So sorry. We haven’t got free samples of popcorn. If you’re interested in buying some, the prices per bag are…”

Shopkeepers in that town should know to hide the samples when they see those people walking towards the door.

Not a store but an office – we would occasionally put seasonal candy on the front desk – handfuls would be taken which is fine but we did put it out for people, but we stopped the valentines day that someone put out those little cinnamon hearts. They were unwrapped. We noticed one gentleman going back for 2nds, 3rds, and then also noticed – he would be licking his hands before getting a next big handful. Candy bowl was emptied into the garbage as soon as the gent was out of sight, and we never put candy out again on the front desk.
