Sad, really. The Republican Party used to be one of the stalwart defenders of science — back about fifty years ago.

All religions are truly fantasy worlds. There have always been wars between fantasy gods; “our god is the one true god and yours is a fake”. Then it gets weirder because it devolves into “our interpretation of the same god is the right one so we’ll kill you” (Sunni v Shia, Catholics v. Protestants, etc) These infantile religions are remnants of primitive times and plague our planet still. Judeo-Christian-Islam stemmed from mad Abraham hearing voices in his head telling him to slit his sons throat and his conclusion was that instead of the multitude of gods that were sacrificed to in those day to bring rain and good crops and so on, there was only one god. Unfortunately, they are passed from generation to generation by terrorizing young children. So here we are in the 21st century; killing and being killed because of the voices in a psycho’s head from thousands of years ago. Sad.

And, back to the cartoon, the GOP has become a religion based on nothing except a vigorous opposition to observed fact, in science, economics, international relations, and… anything really. Whatever it takes to achieve the holy grail of the lowest possible taxes on the richest people. It does make it simple that there is not one single issue that the Republicans are on the right side of. But it’s kind of depressing that rational people no longer have a real choice in the voting booth.

Conservatives believe that they don’t have free speech unless they can say whatever they want and have it universally believed without questions.

What I find truly amazing are the uber religious, who base their whole world on “faith” and mythology, are the ones calling science, based on facts, knowledge, and analysis, “a religion” of fanatics.(out to steal their wealth and tax them of course)

Improper use of oxymoron. By its definition, scientific method does not “settle” science, climate or otherwise. However, the fact that organisms can change to become resistant to antibiotics would seem to disprove the deniers of evolution. We’re just seeing it on a shorter term due to the evanescent life times of bacteria/viruses.The deniers have no explanation, since there is no evolution.
